about aaltoes

Since 2009, Aaltoes has made vast strides forward in improving the public’s opinion on entrepreneurship as a viable career path. Many universities, as well as cities, have followed our example and established their own entrepreneurship societies to help make Finland the place-to-be for startup entrepreneurship.

At Aaltoes we believe that the future depends on startups. That's why we bring together the entrepreneurial minded to make a difference.

At Aaltoes we encourage people to dream big, learn from their mistakes, and move on without the fear of failure.

Aaltoes organizes networking events, trips, and a summer accelerator program among other things in order to strengthen the Finnish startup community.

our history

Founders of Aaltoes wanted talented people to admire entrepreneurship and see it as a way to create something new and radical. The idea was to inspire entrepreneurs(-to-be) and help people work for their own ideas and dreams.

We started out with grassroot events, which are still the most valuable part of our activity. You can build your very own team or pitch an idea and get feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, whilst building a lifetime professional network with top-notch serial entrepreneurs.

  1. Starting out

Aaltoes was founded in 2009 by Aalto students who were inspired by their field trip to MIT.

  2. The Space

Our first office was at Design Factory, and in 2009 we took over the building nowadays know as Startup Sauna.

  3. Branching

In 2010, we kickstarted Bootcamp (now Startup Sauna) and Summer of Startups. SLUSH was under Aaltoes up untill 2011.

  4. Media attention

Between 2009-2011, #aaltoes was the most popular Twitter hashtag in Finland. We've also been featured on TechCrunch and MIT publications.

We reached 12 000 likes on Facebook in December 2014. Twitter-wise, we're at over 9000 so we're doing something right.

  6. Rockin’ on!

We still have nearly 100 events a year and are heavily involved in projects like Startup Sauna, Startup Life and SLUSH.
